Spiced Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk of choice
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1–2 tsp coconut sugar / brown sugar / maple syrup
- 1 tbsp dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate (70%+)
- 1 small cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise
- Pinch of freshly grated nutmeg
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
Optional warmth add-ins: pinch of clove powder, chili powder, or salt.
Method
Stovetop
- Add milk, cinnamon stick, and star anise to a saucepan.
- Heat gently on low–medium for 5–7 minutes to infuse (do not boil).
- Whisk in cocoa powder, sweetener, and nutmeg.
- Add dark chocolate and stir until melted and smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
- Strain and pour into a mug.
