Classic Creamy Hot Chocolate

Makes: 1 serving Style: Classic • Creamy

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1–2 tsp coconut sugar / brown sugar / maple syrup (to taste)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 1–2 tbsp chopped 70% dark chocolate (for extra flavour)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) almond milk (or milk of choice)
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Method

Stovetop
  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together cocoa powder, sweetener, salt, and hot water until smooth.
  2. Place on medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer.
  3. Reduce heat to low, add milk slowly while whisking.
  4. Stir in vanilla and let simmer for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Pour into a mug and enjoy warm.
Microwave
  1. Add all ingredients to a microwave-safe mug.
  2. Heat for 60–90 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds.
  3. Froth if desired.
Garnish (optional)
  • Whipped cream
  • Marshmallows
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon
